Enzo loading on the trailer!

Here is my video with Enzo getting on the trailer. This is how I would load him if I were to go somewhere. I then go to the horse window and take the lead off. I don't tie Enzo, since he stands fine and the stall is so small. Plus Enzo has no where to go anyway. If I were to tie him, which I did when he was younger. I use a Clinton Anderson tie ring and a break away halter. You can never be too safe. This way the tie ring can give, if your horse were to fall down, or if something happened?? Plus, you would have the break away halter, in case the tie ring for some reason didn't give? Once I get to my destination. I go to the horse window first. I replace the lead line on Enzo's halter. Then, I go to the back door and slightly pull on Enzo's tail hairs to have him back out. Once he backs out, I catch the lead line then. Keep it natural~Janine and Enzo

  1. How awesome Janine!!! Enzo's such a good baby!! How long did it take you to get to that point?

    Congrats!

  2. I would say at least a solid year! I could get him in early in the training, but he didn't stay there long! He would try to turn around a lot! He never ate hay! He would run off if I touched the back door. He would paw the trailer floor when I would shut the door, when he did stay on. He would cry out to other horses when I drove him around the driveway. Now, all that is gone and he eats his hay just fine now!!

  4. Wow he's awesome! So smart and calm! I can't wait for Chrome to get to that point. I need to practice more, but like you said it's been very hot. I really wish I had a trailer like yours. I hate the stupid ramp because it the horse panics while I'm raising the ramp and goes backwards I could be seriously injured. Makes me nervous. My trailer doesn't have a center divider (he wouldn't fit if there was one) so there is no butt bar or chain. Someday I hope to have a nicer trailer. :) Thanks for sharing the video. It gives me something to work toward.

Oh and Enzo is so gorgeous! And so big. I hope Chrome makes at least 16hh.

  5. Thanks! I have gone to shows, when I was younger and never had horses that could trailer! It was so embarassing. After that, I promised myself I would only go somewhere if my horses can load and behave themselves!!!!! Yeahh!!

I had to laugh at your 16 hands! I also had 17'2 hand horses when I was younger! But smaller horses now seem cool to me. Now that I am 40 and like being closer to the ground, LOL. If Enzo doesn't get taller, that's fine with me, LOL. But his parents middle average was 16 hands. Enzo currently is same as Chrome at 15'2 hands. So Chrome is big also for his age.

    Thanks again!!!!

  6. I like bigger horses because I'm 5'11, but Chrome dam is only 14.3hh so I worry he won't get tall. I've ridden 16hh horses that were comfortable and didn't feel too small so that's the minimum I really hope it makes. It would be even more awesome if he reached 16.2hh, but I'll keep my expectations low so I'm not disappointed. :D Size isn't the only important thing though. My favorite horses growing up was only 14hh. :D

  8. Hehe yeah I bet being 5'1" makes it tough to climb up on a 17+hh horse, especially if trail riding with no mounting block. :) I'll still love Chrome even if he's short and gray. He's the best and sweetest horse I've ever had.

  9. Yeah, I usually had to teach my horses to lay down, find a log, or a ditch to have them to stand in! Teaching Enzo to lay down should be interesting someday!! Since he is so goofy, LOL.
