Having fun!

Enzo always makes me smile:) I just put a link below of a video with Enzo getting on the pedestal for the second time in his life. http://sharing.theflip.com/session/e5cbfabc1f35a6d96f0742654b3ab021/video/44249361 I hope it opens???? Then for fun some jumping of barrels. Which Enzo has done many times, and ending with some beginning learning's of sideways towards me. The video is a bit slow(sorry). Enzo took him time getting up on pedestal, because the barn door was squeaking from the winter winds and it had Enzo all distracted. Enzo was paying more attention on the squeaking at first than the pedestal. I also just set my camera up on top of a barrel and just let it tape. I never realized till later that I chopped off Enzo's head, oops. Since, this was only Enzo's 2nd time on the pedestal and Enzo decided to stay up on it for a long time I let him. It was about 4 to 5 minutes! I also used that time for some friendly game as well. You will also notice Enzo does give me a kiss and you see me wipe it off(normally I never would), LOL. I only did that, because we have calcium chloride in the arena to keep the dust down. Enzo apparently stuck his nose in it! And the dirt then being spread onto my face didn't taste so good, LOL. You will see a tiny later Enzo goes to kiss me again. But this time I didn't let him:( Again, Enzo is sooo funny! We then jumped the barrels a few times just for the fun of it. Enzo was being lazy, but I didn't mind. I wasn't really asking for much either. When we got to the sideways to me you will see that is newer to both of us. I have so far been only asking for a few steps at a time. When I go to his right side and ask him to come right at first. Enzo got a bit confused. Since we got close to the barrels. Enzo thought I wanted him to do something with the barrels. I had to regroup and try again and then the sideways to me worked much better. I am just thrilled I got this much. Well, this was just a tiny bit for you to see what we are up to. After I turned the taper off. We went and worked on more sideways down the fence, without a fence, circles, figure 8's, and traveling circles. Since , I was moving around so much. It's impossible to tape all of that by myself. Well, I hope everybody had a super NEW YEAR! Enzo and I have lots of plans for 2011! Create great moments~Janine and Enzo

  1. LOVED the video! Enzo is getting so big and quite muscular, what a handsome child you have there :)
He also seems a lot calmer, what a smart boy.

  2. That was awesome!!! He did so great! I cracked up when he did his first jump. Lazy boy lol! He did so well on the sidepass. That is so fantastic! And he was so happy on the pedestal. Did you make that yourself? What are the dimensions? I think I'm going to have my husband make one for me.

Oh and yep I was able to see the link lol. As I'm sure you realized hehe. Thanks for sharing. I had so much fun watching him. He's so big and gorgeous! I love seeing him in action. :)

  3. Thanks guys!!! I am glad you both could open it! I wasn't sure if it would work. Yes, it is a home made pedistal, but it's not perfect by any means. I reccomend finding directions on the internet to build a correct pedistal. I garbage picked this large spool and then I had my dad re-enforce the sides as you see and it serves us ok for now. But without the bottom the pedistal being larger it does have a tendance to flip over. Especially if Enzo gets onto it by the very edges of it. That is why I buried the botom part in the sand. I am using the sand to weigh it down. So it does not flip over sooo easy. So basically for FREE it works for now. But it's not the best. And it's not the best to teach NEW baby horses on. Because, if it does flip or move a lot. Then the horse of course does not trust you as a leader. Nor feels very comfortable getting on it. Hope this helps!!!!

  4. I wonder is sawing a rubber barrel in half would work??

  5. Basically, the bottom needs to be at least 6 to 8 inches wider than the top of the platform. I have tried all kinds of items and without the bottom being larger. They all flip over if your horse uses the edge of the item even with 1 foot. Kristen, I have paper plans to build one at my home. If you want to pick up a copy for yourself you can? I don't know what the cost of wood would be to build????? I will have Chris build me one when I move.

  6. Ohhh and the pedistal does need weight to it. Light items also flip:)

  7. Yeah I don't think the barrel would work because the sides are so bad about caving in. I will look online for some plans. Thanks for telling me the pros and cons. I did notice in the video that it was trying to tilt sometimes. :) Thanks!

  8. To stabilize your platform you could use 1/2 or 5/8 inch thick plywood for a base. Just cut a peice larger than the original base.(you could use a jigsaw to cut it round or just make it square)I would use deck screws to secure it that way you can remove it easily.
You should be able to cover the base with sand
so your pony does not step on it.

  9. Thanks!!! I have thought of that as well. Unfortunately, I am at a boarding place and I need to put all my items away after each use and this thing is heavy, LOL. I can turn it on the side and then roll it wherever. I have just made sure that I am teaching Enzo to use the center of the circle more. When Enzo steps on the edges I make him get off again and start over. This way, I don't set him up for flipping over and spooking him. I am only using this for front feet. I plan to build a nice correct pedestal once I move to NC. Then I will be all set. But thanks for the options as well!

  10. Great video, Janine, he's such a stunner!

I made a pedestal by stacking three pallets together, secured them with screws. Made a base out of plywood about 4inches bigger than the pallets on all sides, then nailed a piece of rubber matting to the top.

You can also paint the top and add sand to the paint to make it non slip.

  11. Thanks Sharon!!! I'll do that once I have my own place!! For now I need something easy to put away each time in a tack room(I can roll this one). Since, I am at a boarding facility and cannot leave it out. But great idea!!!! Plus, my blogger friends will like this idea as well!!! Whoo hooo!! Thanks!
