CRAZY WEATHER!

Needless to say, with all this heat. I don't have any fun stories of Enzo or Kaspin. We are all just trying to beat the heat! I wish I could bring my horses into my home for the air conditioning and away from the bugs. I live near Detroit MI and weather here has been nuts. First we had hardly any winter! Ok that one I won't complain about! It was one of the nicest winters I have ever seen. It was so nice to not get the snow blower out every other day. Wear so much clothing that you cannot bend. Or hide in your home because it's -20 degrees outside with the wind chill. Then spring came and we got no rain! That is supposed to be our rainy months! Ok, except for the poor plants and my water bill. I guess, spring was pretty nice. Now we are at summer and still no rain and the heat has been beyond amazing! Just yesterday was another record heat of 102 degrees! We finally have had some crazy rain storm the last 2 days, due to the amazing heat. I am thankful at least for the rain! But the high heat continues. 100 today and 100 tomorrow. Hopefully 87 by the weekend. I sure hope so! My poor electric bill and water bill! I know the heat and weather has been crazy all across the USA! How are you doing and what are you and your ponies doing to stay cool? Or out of mother natures way?? Keep it natural Janine, Enzo and Kaspin!!!

  1. I know that sounds probably crazy but I would switch with you any day! Here in Sweden we had rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, oh and some storm. No summer at all so far. Or well, I think all in all we had 5 hot days and now it´s July. That´s just stupid! But I guess that´s what you get for living so far up north...

    1. If it gonna stay this hot? I would just like rain to go with it. So yes, we will take some of your rain!!

  2. Since we are pretty close to you, same thing here. I went to Jesse Peter's clinic over the weekend and got caught in BOTH storms while Sonny was in the trailer. Going up was fine, but the way home was pretty bad and pretty scary.

Sonny's new barn is shady and breezy, so we moved just in time. I keep molasses in his water so he drinks plenty and the fan on high. Since it's going to be extra hot these next two days, I think I will take another fan down for him.

  4. So differant from last summers non stop rain so I won't complain over much.
Our barn is very shady, though Camryn does have a fan to stand in front of in the aisle. I've been letting her go naked when it's to hot. Though can't do that much as she has sweet itch so badly.
I work at a greenhouse so inside at work is beyond hot can you say 130 and more? I have a huge fan loaded on a flat bed that I move around to whichever area I'm working in. I also keep a wet chamoise around my neck at all times. McDonalds Sweet Tea in those HUGE cups have been a life saver as well.

  5. Yeah our weather has followed about the same pattern as yours. We went two months with no rain at all. And yes it makes for an outrageous water/electric bill.

It's funny I've said the same thing about wishing I could bring my horses indoors lol. For now they have the big barn for shade and they roll in the pond to cool off. I wish I could set the sprinkler up for them like I did last summer, but we're having water restrictions. There have been so many fires they keep running out of water. That is so scary to not be able to put out a fire because the reservoir is out of water. :( I'm ready for a break from the heat!
