Parelli Play Day Durand, MI with Kaspin.

I have been making my self do something everyday, so I won't sit home in depression. Yesterday, I took Kaspin out for the first time I have owned him. There was a Parelli Play Day in Durand, MI by Pareill Professional Meggie Andrews and her husband Steve Andrews! Kaspin isn't so found of the trailer, since Kaspin is claustrophobic. He loads well, but prefers to not stay on long. So another good reason to get Kaspin out. Kaspin is also a bit spooky, and it was cool for him to see so much yesterday. We ended up tying  Kaspin to the trailer for lunch. I wasn't thrilled about it, since I wasn't sure what he would do? But they wanted us to all eat together. Later we came out to find Kaspin off eating by himself! Yup, he spooked, broke my snap, and left. Oh well at least Kaspin was ok. Here are a few I-phone pictures from my lovely friend Kim who trailered us to the event and took these pictures.

Kaspin jumping barrels and shadow pic of kim's horse SHADOW, lol.

 Backing Kaspin.

Missing my other boy, Janine and Kaspin.

  1. So glad you still have Kaspin. I was hoping having him would at least encourage you to get out of bed in the morning. Give yourself a cyber hug from Camryn & I.

  3. Kaspin is such a hunk of a Haflinger!! Sounds like a fun day for both of you!
Typical Haffie. . .are you sure Kaspin spooked or did he just really want grass? :)
A lady at my new barn has 2 Haffies and does Parelli with them. She invited me to join them one day :)
She was telling me that Shy was introverted at one point, but the more we talked, she saw Shy do something with her tongue and said she is definitely and extrovert.

    1. Thanks:) Yes, Kaspin did spook(unfortunately he spooks a lot). We even heard the horses outside all whinnie when the commotion happened(next door neighbor came out to cut grass, that is what Kaspin saw). I just blew it off, figuring if I ran out it would be nothing.

I wouldn't just go off a tongue about introverted or extroverted. There are many things to consider, but the main one is extroverts easily more their feet. Introverts DO NOT like to move their feet. Kaspin is an introvert he is not a mover. Even when Kaspin spooks the most he runs is 5 strides or he spooks in place. An Extrovert will run a lot before stopping, or looking back at what spooked them. And when you ask extroverts to move they move with ease. Here is a chart you can look at http://files.parelli.com/HorsenalityChart.pdf Have fun.

  4. What a fun day! I'm so glad that Kaspin is able to help you through this time. You will forever miss Enzo of course, but hopefully one day, it will hurt a little less. Next year I want to do a play day too!! xoxo

  5. He reminds me a lot of my RBI checking everything out (touch it is now her favorite game) lol. Glad you are experiencing things together! I'm a little surprised they wanted you to tie the horses, but I guess if that is your only option, then so be it. Also, if you dont have any plans this weekend, you are more than welcome to come to the TN tour with us! :)

    1. Yeah, it was my only option to have lunch with everybody. I should have used my blocker tie ring that gives to pressure. I knew I didn't feel great about it. Oh well, live and learn, right? Oh, TN sounds like so much fun. But I better not, I am little broke right now and still have final Enzo bills to clean up, yuck. Have a super fun time for me:)

  6. Hi - I just found your blog while searching through other Haflinger blogs :) It's always great to be able to stumble across fellow Haflinger lovers!

Kaspin looks a lot like a Haflinger mare I used to work with - I'm curious...what is your boy's breeding?

    1. Hi WELCOME! Gosh, my bad, I will have to go home and look, LOL. OMG, your haflinger is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! I so wish Kaspin had white in his face! He is registered and all and came from a Haflinger breeder, but somehow missed the white in his face, LOL. Thanks

    2. Thank you! I work at a Haflinger farm and we have a few that have minimal white markings on their face - so tell Kaspin that he's not completely alone ;) The horse that reminds me of him is here:

She has a teeny, tiny star on her forehead. Actually, barely a star...but very cute!

    3. Oh, you work at a Haflinger breeding farm! How cool, must be fun!!!!! I have Kaspins pedigree here. His mother is Carmen Tof and father is Aircommander Sac. If I read this right? Looks like grandfather is Aristotle Tof? Are you on facebook also? Can we be friends? Thanks, Janine

    4. Oh cool! TOF is the suffix for Tudor Oaks Farm in Illinois (stop me if I'm telling you something you already know... ;) They are probably the largest and most widely known Haflinger farm in the US. I haven't had the chance to visit the farm yet, but I know the farm manager/trainer and she's a great horsewoman and trains a lot of eventers in addition to working with Haflingers (and many of their Haflingers event, too!).

I'm on FB - I'm not sure I'm comfortable writing out my full name here, but you can find it if you go to the Deer Haven Farm site - I'm listed as the trainer. :)

    5. I was at an Eventing show here in Michigan and Tudor Oaks Farms was here with 2 Haflingers. I was so happy to see the Haffies competing with the big guys.
I'll probably look you up on Facebook, too. Haflinger owners and all :)

    6. No, I know nothing. I just now looked up Tudor Oaks farm. I can see where Kaspin looks like those horses. Very cool!!! They have some pretty horse too! Thanks for the information. Do you know what he SAC is for??? I am now friends on FB with Deer Haven Farms. Also very cool pics of some pretty Haflingers!!! Just so you know. You can write me back again and give me your name. I moderated anything that comes in on my blog and it won't be posted on my blog. Unless, I let it post. So I won't post your next comment. Or tell me where I can find your trainer info on the Deer Haven FB site?? I looked around, but I seem to be missing it somehow? Thanks again for the information! You're so sweet! If we don't end up being FB friends, because too much trouble. I totally understand:) THANKS AGAIN for all your help!

  7. This looks like it was just what you needed. It will take time as I know Friesians steal one's heart (my trainer now owns my boy, Sebastian, but I LOVE watching them). Oberon, my QH, will be the proud recipient of what I learn at the big Parelli Horse & Soul clinic in Williamston NC I will be attending the beginning of December. I can't wait. I remember the awesome job you did documenting your experience ... I will try to do at least half as good a job as you did.

  8. So sorry you're missing your boy, but I'm glad Kaspin is keeping you out and active. What a relief that you never sold him! He's such a good boy. It sounds like he did great aside from the spook and broken snap lol. I'm glad he was fine though. :)
